Umberto Terracini (1895–1983) was an Italian politician and an important figure in the Italian Communist Party. He was also one of the founding members of the Italian Communist Party in 1921. Born in Turin, Italy, he played a significant role in the anti-fascist movement during the rise of Mussolini.
Terracini was a Jewish intellectual, and his political activities led to arrest and imprisonment during the fascist regime. Despite the persecutions, he continued his fight against fascism. After World War II, Umberto Terracini was significantly involved in the reconstruction of Italy and served as the President of the Constituent Assembly of Italy from 1946 to 1947, which was responsible for drafting the Italian Constitution.
Throughout his career, Terracini remained a committed communist, although he was critical of the Soviet Union's authoritarianism under Stalin. His life and work demonstrate his dedication to social justice, democracy, and anti-fascism.
