The chat interface is the heart of Gab AI. Learn how to have effective conversations, manage your chat history, and unlock advanced features.

Getting Started

The chat interface is where you'll spend most of your time with Gab AI. Simply type your message in the input field at the bottom and press Enter to send. The AI will respond in the conversation thread above.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Press Enter to send a message. Use Shift+Enter to add a new line without sending. Press / to quickly access commands.

Writing Effective Prompts

The quality of your prompts directly affects the quality of AI responses. Here are some tips for better results:

• Be specific — Include details about what you want
• Provide context — Share relevant background information
• Set the format — Specify how you want the response structured
• Iterate — Refine your request based on initial responses

Choosing AI Models

By default, Gab AI uses intelligent routing to select the best model for your request. You can also manually select a model using the model selector button near the input field.

• Auto — Let Gab AI choose the best model automatically
• Default AI — Our free model for everyday in-app use
• GPT-5.5, Claude — Premium models for complex tasks
• Specialized — Image, video, and music generation models

Credit Usage

Our default AI is free for Plus subscribers in the app. Not included in API — API requests always use credits. Other models use credits based on message length and model capability. Check the Credits page for details.

Conversation Features

Each conversation in Gab AI has several useful features:

• Edit messages — Click on your message to edit and regenerate
• Regenerate — Ask the AI to try again with a different response
• Copy — Copy any message or code block to your clipboard
• Share — Share interesting conversations with others

Attachments & Files

You can attach files to your messages for the AI to analyze: Click the attachment button (📎) in the input area to upload files, or simply drag and drop files directly into the chat.

• Images — Upload images for analysis or as reference
• Documents — PDF, Word, text files for summarization or Q&A
• Code — Source code files for review and debugging
• Spreadsheets — Excel and CSV files for data analysis

Managing Conversations

Keep your workspace organized by managing your conversations:

• New chat — Start a fresh conversation from the sidebar
• Rename — Give conversations meaningful names
• Archive — Hide conversations without deleting them
• Delete — Permanently remove conversations you no longer need
• Search — Find past conversations by content

Collections

Use Collections (Plus feature) to group related conversations together for better organization. Great for projects, topics, or workflows.
