Maps and Place Guides: Search, Sources and Outings
Explore places in an area, read their source links and prepare an outing plan. Find manual area entry, place guides and the Chat handoff.

Choose the area you want to explore
Start with a city, neighborhood or address
Open Maps and sign in. Enter your area in City or address, then choose Explore this area. Pick the area you intend to search before reviewing places.
Find places in the selected area
After confirming an area, describe the kind of place or use an available category. Inspect the returned map/list and select the intended place. Similar venue names and incomplete information need review; search results are candidates rather than guaranteed suitability.
Read place details and the supporting sources
A place guide can include available address, hours, photos, ratings, website/map links and an AI summary. Open the actual venue/source to check current details. Missing information does not prove an amenity is absent, and an attractive summary does not establish opening hours or availability.
Area selection and Memory are different
Maps can use eligible account Memory for personalization after you confirm an area. Review your Memory settings when deciding what context to use. Entering a city or address does not grant device-location access.
Plan an outing prepares a Chat draft
The source flow uses actual selected/search places and links to prepare an Auto Chat request. Add your date, time window, transport and requirements, then review before sending. A generated itinerary does not book tickets, make a reservation or verify real-time access.
Check before relying on the plan
Confirm hours, travel assumptions, accessibility requirements, costs and reservations with the relevant venue/source. An approximate travel time or AI recommendation is not a confirmed booking. Change the area or search if results are unsuitable.
Access and availability
Sign in to use Maps. Request limits and source/venue availability can affect results. Before sending a generated Chat follow-up, check the selected model, account access and applicable credit rules.
If a search or guide is unavailable
Read the displayed error, retry the intended request where offered or use a source/map/venue link. Verify missing hours or amenities with the venue before planning around them.

Does Plan an outing make reservations?
It prepares a Chat planning draft using place context. Review and send it if appropriate; it does not itself book tickets or reserve anything.
Does a missing amenity in the guide mean the venue lacks it?
No. Information may be missing or outdated. Check the actual venue/source for the requirement that matters.
Is entering a city the same as granting device location?
No. An entered area and a device-location permission are different. The checked web entry used a City or address field.
