How Memory Works

As you chat with Gab AI, it identifies important information worth remembering:

• Personal preferences — Favorite styles, formats, tones
• Professional context — Your role, industry, tools you use
• Projects — Ongoing work, goals, deadlines
• Communication style — How you prefer to receive information

Managing Your Memories

You're always in control of what AI remembers. Open Memory from the app sidebar (the brain icon) to see and manage all your stored memories.

• View — See all memories the AI has stored
• Edit — Modify or correct any memory
• Delete — Remove memories you don't want kept
• Add — Manually tell the AI to remember something

Import Memories from Another AI

Already have memories stored with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or another AI? You can import them into Gab AI in under a minute so your first conversation feels like your hundredth.

The import prompt works with any AI that stores conversation memory or context, including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, and others.

Automatic Memory — No Approvals Needed

Gab AI saves memories automatically as you chat; there's nothing to review or approve: • Say "remember" — anything you explicitly ask the AI to remember is saved instantly, with an Undo option right in the chat. • Auto-save — when you mention something durable about yourself, it's saved in the background and you're notified with an Undo option. • Learning over time — periodically, the AI reviews your recent conversations to update, combine, and expire memories so they stay current (a trip you're about to take becomes a trip you took). Everything it learns appears on your Memory page, labeled by origin — Auto-saved, Learned by Gab AI, Saved by request, Imported, or Added by you — and memories learned from conversations link back to the chat they came from.

Turn learning from conversations on or off anytime on the Memory page (the brain icon in the app sidebar). When off, the AI only uses memories you've added yourself. Temporary chats never create memories, and you can edit or delete anything it saves.

Here are examples of things the AI might remember:

• User is a software engineer who works primarily with Python and React
• Prefers concise, bullet-point responses over long paragraphs
• Working on a mobile app project for a health startup
• Timezone is Eastern Time (ET)
• Has two kids named Sarah and James

Privacy & Control

Your memories are:

• Private — Only you can see and manage your memories
• Secure — Encrypted and protected like all your data
• Deletable — Remove any or all memories at any time
• Yours — Never shared with third parties

1. Copy the export prompt — Open the Import Memories tool from your Memory page and copy the provided prompt. This prompt is specially written to ask your old AI to export all of its stored context about you.
2. Paste the prompt into your old AI — Open a conversation with your previous AI provider (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.) and paste the prompt. It will output a list of everything it remembers about you.
3. Paste the results back into Gab AI — Copy the response from your old AI and paste it into the import tool. Gab AI will automatically parse each entry into individual memories that you can review, toggle on or off, and edit before saving.
